About WordBreakfast
A small independent site for people who play word games every day and would rather be nudged than told.
Why it exists
Search for a Wordle hint and most pages put the answer in the headline. You wanted a push in the right direction and you got the whole thing, before you could look away. WordBreakfast is built around the opposite promise: hints come in steps, from a vague nudge to almost-there, and the answer stays behind a tap you have to make on purpose.
The word tools follow the same idea. A solver shows you what still fits; it doesn’t know what the answer is, and it won’t pretend to.
How the hints are made
We play first
Every puzzle, every morning, by hand, in the official app or paper. No bots, no scraped answers.
Then we write the steps
Hint one is about the idea. Hint two is about letters. Hint three nearly says it. Each one is a sentence, not an essay.
The answer waits
Never in a title, never in a preview, never above the fold. You decide when you have had enough help.
Rules we keep
- We are not affiliated with The New York Times, LinkedIn or any puzzle publisher. Game names appear only to say which puzzle a hint is for.
- We never copy a puzzle. Hints are written in our own words about a puzzle we played; tools work on letters you type in.
- We don’t keep an archive of past puzzles. Yesterday’s answer stays up for a day, for people who missed it, and then it goes.
- We measure what gets used, not who you are. See the privacy page for exactly what that means.
Who
WordBreakfast is made by two people, one who builds and one who designs, who have played these puzzles over breakfast for years. We’re a small team on purpose. If something is wrong, tell us and a person will fix it.
