How to read the results

The top group is the true anagrams: words with exactly your letters. If that group is empty, your letters don’t make a single word, and the next group down is as close as English gets. Within each group, the words most people know come first.

For the newspaper Jumble, the Jumble Solver does all four words at once and puts the circled letters together for the final answer.

Questions people ask

What counts as an anagram here?

A word that uses exactly the letters you typed, each one once — LISTEN and SILENT, for example. Those come first. Below them you get every shorter word your letters can make, which is what you want for Scrabble or a crossword with a missing piece.

Can it solve phrases or names?

It works one word at a time from up to 15 letters. Type a name without spaces and it shows every single word that uses all those letters, then the shorter ones.

What if I'm missing a letter?

Type a question mark for it, up to two. The solver tries every letter in that spot.
